How to Crack Wi-Fi WPA and WPA2 PSK Passwords

The wireless networks are being deployed extensively these days. Both home and office wired networks are now being upgraded to Wi-Fi zones so that many users can connect simultaneously in a wire free environment. With comfort your security is being compromised. The WiFi networks makes use of wireless encryption like WEP, WPA, WPA 2 PSK etc. All these encryption algorithms provides security to IEEE 802.11 wireless networks.

Though WEP algorithm was introduced to provide privacy equivalent to wired networks its the most un secure and easily susceptible algorithm. The Wifi networks secured using WEP can be cracked within minutes with readily available software or hardware. Check this hardware for an example. That explains how insecure WEP algorithm is. Then came the WPA and WPA 2  that promised a secure connection via a stronger algoritm. Though these 2 algoritms are recommended it is still susceptible via software.
Wireless Security Auditor from Elcomsoft is a premium software that can crack WiFi WAP/WPA2 PSK passwords, intercept data packets and locate wireless networks. This app makes use of dictionary attack by searching lists of dictionary words and common phrases that can be found on the internet. Elcomsoft Wireless Security Auditor is undetectable by the Wi-Fi network being probed and WPA/WPA2-PSK passwords can be retrieved  in plain text.
In order to speed up password recovery/ discovery Wireless Security Auditor harness the power of GPU. This app supports graphics cards like NVIDIA  like GeForce and ATI video cards such as Radeon HD 4800 and 5000 series.

Wifi cracking

Features of Elcomsoft Wireless Security Auditor:

  1. Determine how secure your wireless network is
  2. Built-in wireless network sniffer
  3. Test the strength of WPA/WPA2-PSK passwords protecting your wireless network
  4. Save time with patent-pending GPU acceleration technology when one or more compatible NVIDIA or ATI video cards are present
  5. Hardware acceleration on Tableau TACC1441 hardware
  6. Run advanced dictionary attacks with highly configurable variations
  7. Perform attacks from inside or outside of your network

Steps to crack Wi-Fi WPA and WPA2 PSK passwords:

1) Download and install Wireless Security Auditor. Launch the app.
Wireless Security Auditor

2) Go to File and from the drop down menu select ‘Add WPAPSK Hash Manually’.

Elcomsoft Wireless Security Auditor File
3) Now in the new window enter the WiFi networks SSID (name) or broadcast ID and hit OK.
Wireless Security Auditor SSID
4) Now the Security Auditor will do a dictionary match search till the password is found.

WLAN Security Megaprimer DVD Released - 10+ hours of Wi-Fi Hacking and Pwnage !

WLAN Security Megaprimer DVD Released - 10+ hours of Wi-Fi Hacking and Pwnage!

With over 40+ HD videos containing 12+ hours of Wireless Ownage, this DVD weighs in at around 4.2 Gigabytes!

SecurityTube.net just released a 4.2 GB DVD containing over 40+ HD quality videos of their WLAN Security Megaprimer. These videos run over 10+ hours and start from the very basics of wireless hacking, then slowly build momentum and eventually introduces you to the more advanced attacks and hacks.

The videos are fully practical and every hack is demonstrated. They have voice over with detailed explanations of every attack thus allowing a genuine learner to understand, learn and practice, rather then providing just a quick guide to using ready made tools.

We contacted SecurityTube and this initiative is part of larger program they are planning to provide free security and hacking education to everyone, especially students in developing countries like India. THN has always been an advocate of free education and something to help students in India attracted out attention even more.

THN would like to support this worthy cause and is partnering with SecurityTube to promote this in India. We feel that today’s students will be tomorrows Cyber Warriors, and it is important to empower them with the right knowledge! Also, in countries like India, where most colleges still do not offer computer security as a course, these videos will allow them to learn in a self-study mode.

A quick breakdown of the course topics and associated videos is available here.

Hacking Wifi networks with Android

Wardriving with Android | Hacking Wifi networks with Android | Wifi Network Audit using Android | Wifu with android | Best wardriving applications on android

 Start :

G-mon
G-mon
G-mon is a powerful WarDriving scanner and GSM / UMTS Netmonitor and drive test tool. It scans for all WiFi networks in range & saves the data with GPS coordinates into a file on your sd card. You can create a kml file for Google Earth. It shows you the encryption, channel an signal strength. It shows all APs in range in a live map. I used it to collect lots of wifi data which I will be publishing soon.

Wardrive
Wardrive
another fantastic wardriving app which stores scans in sqlite db on the sdcard and displays found networks around in the map.It Requires Google MAPS installed.

Wifi Analyzer
Wifi
Analyzer
This app literally turns your android phone into a Wi-Fi analyzer!! It helps you to find a less crowded channel for your wireless router and allows to audit networks.

Once you get networks, you can then break them into it using Aircrack and backtrack.  Its easy and worth its salt :) . Here is a slice of my wardriving logs while i was in DTC bus :D

Banned Wi-Fi Stumbler iPhone App

Once again, the App Store's loss has turned out to be Cydia's gain. A week after Cupertino removed Wi-Fi stumbler applications like WiFiFoFum, WiFi-Where and yFy Network Finder from the App Store, Aspecto Software, the developer of the WiFiFoFum application has announced that the company is releasing its popular WiFi stumbling application for free on Cydia Store.

Aspecto Software is not the only developer to have taken this decision to move their app underground. Infomind, the developer of yFy Network Finder, another popular Wi-Fi stumbling iPhone application has revealed that the company shall be releasing their app for jailbroken iPhone users on Cydia soon.
This move by the developers seems to indicate that they were probably using private APIs, which is not allowed by Apple as we had speculated in our earlier post and realized that they had no other option but to release it on Cydia.

How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network’s WEP Password with BackTrack

Crack That WEP

To crack WEP, you'll need to launch Konsole, BackTrack's built-in command line. It's right there on the taskbar in the lower left corner, second button to the right. Now, the commands.
First run the following to get a list of your network interfaces:
airmon-ng
The only one I've got there is labeled ra0. Yours may be different; take note of the label and write it down. From here on in, substitute it in everywhere a command includes (interface).
Now, run the following four commands. See the output that I got for them in the screenshot below.

airmon-ng stop (interface) ifconfig (interface) down macchanger --mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 (interface) airmon-ng start (interface)
